A good virus article that reinforces some of our recommendations.  An article written by WinMag.com. Sadly they have vanished so we put a copy of the article on our website, but any links within that article that point to WinMag.com of course will not work properly.  Regardless THESE Days you NEED to have a current up-to-date virus scanner running on your computer!  You can lessen the slow down effect a virus scanner has on your system by excluding certain files and or folders you use regularly and you know to be safe from viruses.

Symantec Norton Antivirus Updates – Updates to Norton Anti-Virus Definitions

McAfee Updates – Updates to Virus Definitions Database.  Can unzip and copy just the dat files to update the DOS version of their virus scanner.

Ad-Aware Utility – Shows suspicious programs running on your computer. Also install the Reference update so you can download the updated reference file.  You can download then from our site click here or go to the Developers Site to get it Direct.

Online Virus Scanners:

Symantec's Online Virus Information Library and
McAfee’s Online Virus information Library
useful to research and get more details on what specific viruses do.

Gateway: Is particularly easy to find complaints on and we are sure that some

less used computer brands and keeping so many links updated is difficult.

ECS, Azza, Transcend, TMC, Protech, Etc.

Note: None of the big name PC manufacturers use any of the above industry standard motherboards, yet these manufacturers manage to sell a lot of boards. So there must be a lot of people out there that think like we do; that when it comes to buying desktop computers, using industry standard components is of utmost importance, so as not to be at the mercy of any one company for parts or service. Sometimes people see these lists and hear us harp on buying industry standard computers and try to go it alone and assemble their computer piece-meal themselves and have great difficulties and may think we had given them bad advice. I would not even try building a singleton (without an inventory of similar parts to test against) system by myself. Believe me we are worth what we charge and you do not want to go it alone. We have provided these links to clarify our philosophy not to suggest anyone should go it alone, but if you wish to do it yourself in order to be more self sufficient and knowledgeable then just ask and we will provide you at no additional charge the opportunity to assist in your computers assembly and software setup configuration.
